The Once and Future Terror #2

Some people want to replay the American Civil War. Some people want to replay the Middle Ages. That is the problem today, and perhaps for the forseeable future. Human history repeatedly recounts intense conflict, often rising to the level of warfare, between a group of people who want to live in peace and with a reasonable level of personal freedom, or "civil rights," and another group of people who cannot rest unless they can make their religion, their set of beliefs, the dominant and controlling religion, the religion that is sponsored or at least favored by the civil government. For evangelists, converting others to their system of beliefs and to their religious institutions and their cultural doctrines of good and evil are not only a recommended pattern of behavior but in reality a mandatory behavior. The doctrines of their religion, whether they call it "Christianity" or by any other name, include the requirement that they "teach" their religion to others everywhere, and for the evangelist "teaching" is accomplished only when others are wholly converted to the authorized religious doctrines. Evangelicals regard all competing beliefs as the work of a spiritual enemy that must be defeated by any means, including violence, including war. The other beliefs are the implacable enemy, and the enemy must be defeated, and defeat of the competing beliefs, even when they are accepted science, means killing or suppressing the people who hold those beliefs. For evangelists, if you are not a believer you must lie and pretend to believe the religious authority accommodated by the state, or you will be identified not only as an enemy of God but also an enemy of the state. God is the witness for the good works of the state, and the state is the witness for the good works of God (and His true followers) and those who persist in offering competing moral and ethical ideas must be denied any power or influence. If they do exercise some social or moral power, or political influence, they must be executed or imprisoned and tortured as an example to the people. This pattern of behavior has been repeated throughout human history, and in the year 2025 in the United States of America, the evangelicals have been setting the stage for the completion of their mission to exercise all of the powers of federal, state and local government to assure that their view of the world prevails over all other viewpoints, at any cost. The requirements for successful evangelism is that any and all competing viewpoints are effectively suppressed, oppressed, repressed, or eliminated. This is the problem that Americans are swimming in at this time, and they will drown absolutely if they do not wake up and demand the liberty that is outlined in their Constitution, which includes freedom of religion, which as both a practical and scientific matter means freedom from religion, which means freedom from having another group's religion forced upon you by evangelicals backed by the full credit and power of the state. The "Christianity" claimed by American evangelicals includes the authoritarian family and the organization of the social hierarchy by racial groups. In brief, white people get white jobs and black people get black jobs. Essentially, economic roles are assigned by race. That is the brief definition of racism. Many people would say that "racism" is not just an economic practice. Racism includes prejudicial and false doctrines about the social and psychological, and physical, differences between different racial groups, usually asserting that white or light-skinned people are superior in intellect and moral virtue than dark-skinned people. But there is also a convincing argument that the myths of racial inferiority are invented as a means to justify the unfair treatment, or oppressive hierarchical stratification of society. The racist argues incessantly that economic stratification is natural and fair, based on merit, rather than being what it really is: a social and economic order imposed on people who would rather be free. The freedom that people want and long for is available only if the people demand it. There is always a political process, or the superficial trappings of a political process, but in the end, the hero of a free society is the same as the hero of an "action film." That is, the hero is the one who kills the bad guys. Non-violence, rational arguments, lectures, books, poetry, protests, letters to the editor, calm discussion, are all the outcome of polite society, but not the behavior of a civilization at war with itself. Oppression and the threat of violence and imprisonment are not polite. These are the weapons of people who support tyranny, and tyrants do not take any opposition seriously until they receive news that their home has been burned to the ground and their family is dead. Successful opposition to a tyranny requires self-defense at least as violent and irrational as that of the tyrant.

I am not advocating violence, I am acknowledging the clear message from the neo-Confederates and the Republican Party that violence is threatened, even assured, as what the Republicans who claim to be "conservatives" have publicly referenced as their "Second Amendment Remedy."

Powers Not Enumerated: Population Policy

The most fundamental principle of any democratic republic is enshrined, raised up to the level of religious doctrine, in what is commonly called the "enumeration clause," which is in fact the content of the Ninth and Tenth Amendments, that remind us that the power of self-government originates with the people and only the people; not a king, not royalty or any special class of people distinguished by wealth or even education, and certainly not racial identity. The power comes from the people and if the Constitution does not clearly vest a power in the people's government then the government does not have that power.

Amendment 9

The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed

to deny or disparage others retained by the people.

Amendment 10

The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor

prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to

the people.

Neither the federal nor any state constitution vests their respective governing bodies with the power to regulate the quantity and/or the qualities of the human population. Search for it; you will not find it. The power to impose a population policy on the people has never been granted by the people to the government. There are credible arguments that the government should have this power, but it never has been granted. A constitutional amendment is required, either at the federal level or the state level, or both.

Abortion laws, which regulate sexual behavior and childbirth, are a population policy. Abortion laws and abortion regulation, especially the Republican policy of "banning abortion" is an exercise of the power – if one's eyes and brain are functioning – over childbirth, in terms of both the numbers of the human population and the physical and mental qualities of the human population. The abortion laws and policies of the Republican Platform clearly state that if a human child is conceived, either by plan or accident, that child even in the form of a microscopic bundle of undifferentiated cells, must be carried to term and delivered. This type of law requires women to have children. These laws deny a woman the personal choice to not bear children. Where are the laws that dictate that men must have children? Where are the laws that require a child conceived by a man must be carried to term and delivered? Abortion laws are a fraud, because they are invariably based on religious doctrines and they are therefore a violation of the First Amendment because they are laws that designate specific religious doctrines as beliefs that are favored and sponsored by the state. The millions of men and women who believe that it is morally wrong to give birth to a child who is not wanted, not planned with the deliberated intention to be responsibly raised by caring parents, are dismissed. Abortion laws take the right to give birth, or not give birth, away from the people. No constitution vests that claim of power over the people to their government. Should government possess the power to regulate births and the population? I believe so. But government has not been given that power. Abortion laws are a clear violation of the First, Ninth and Tenth Amendments.

"Diversity" is another word for "freedom"

What's wrong with diversity? Nothing really. Any policy that recognizes or promotes the acceptance of "diversity" is an honest and rational policy that consciously accepts and even celebrates the natural differences among us. A society cannot legitimately claim a policy of personal freedom if being different from others – in opinions or practices – is forbidden or even discouraged. Having a population that is uniform has never been a considered goal openly stated in any constitution. "Patriotism" has been evoked as a trait that should be universal, but it requires the suppression of critical thought. "Patriotism" is often just another word for "obedience" or "compliance." The Republican policies that discredit and discourage diversity and the elevation of civil rights for different groups in our human population are blatant opposition to the acclaimed principle of "equal rights for all." Alleged "conservatives" have traditionally claimed the high ground of personal freedom and limited government, but here they are today (2025) in the guise of the Republican Party, managing sexual behavior and childbirth, implying that the people, being ignorant and immoral, cannot be trusted to make proper decisions as to when to bear children, and when to not bear children. The blatant opposition to "diversity" and government policies that endeavor to acknowledge and protect diversity are policies that oppose personal freedom, and political and civil rights. Having rights upheld means to recognize the power and authority of the people as the origin of the powers given by the people to their governments. That obvious compatibility of diversity with freedom was the cornerstone, the keystone, of conservative commitment to a democratic republic. It died, and Donald Trump is the Black Magician who presides over the funeral prepared for American democracy.

Population Policy Cuts All Ways

The tragic blindness of the Republican Party and the people who tolerate their tyranny is embodied in the fact that any exercise of government management of the human population, that is any "population policy" that is accepted, is a legal precedent for the government to exercise further and more invasive control over sexual behavior and childbirth. A government that can forbid abortion could change to a policy that requires abortion – for selected members of society. A government that requires childbirth could refine that policy to precisely formulate who may bear a child and when. Once any population policy is vested in government, by law or custom, the government can defend a claim to go further, to impose specific targets for both the numbers of children and who can produce them by law. Population policy is not a limit on the powers of government, it is a limit on personal and family freedom. It is the opposite of limited government. It is invasive, intrusive, opposition to personal freedom. The alleged moral opposition to "killing children" or killing embryos is total hypocrisy. Those who "oppose abortion" invariably support sending young men to be trained to kill and to kill more efficiently than any supposed or anticipated enemy army. Those who claim to protect helpless embryos support the killing of women and children any time that an economic or political adversary demonstrates the possibility of interfering with our wealth or our access to resources. The same people who claim to protect unborn children kill born children with gusto, if such children or adults get in the way of the land or wealth that they believe God has given to them. The "religion" that defends embryos glories in the death penalty, the right to possess and carry firearms, and the glorious heroism of citizens who kill the enemy efficiently and without remorse. It is blatantly hypocritical to claim that morality requires the protection of embryos when that same standard of morality elevates killing to a level that warrants medals, awards, and parades. American men and women return home from the battlefields of terror and warfare and they are at a loss to understand how they are supposed to "readjust" to the peaceful life of an ordinary citizen. They have changed who they are. They have met the expectation that they defend the political interests of our country by killing people with no tolerance for the natural human agony of feeling that it is wrong to kill people. Traditional Christianity includes a commandment "You shall not kill." And of course it is debated and alleged that this commandment applies only to peacetime civil society. Warfare is unavoidable and killing is required, not forbidden. The real motive for prohibiting abortion might very well be to support the goal of raising an army of poor citizens who join the armed forces as an opportunity to "get ahead," having other opportunities closed to them, and protecting the women who are required by law to bear children to grow up and learn to discard all of the moral teachings of their childhood and adopt the universal political policy of "kill or be killed." And, if you kill people from another country without remorse or an agony of conscience, it is deemed brave, noble and patriotic to do so. That is the real reason why the false "Christians" require childbirth – to provide the army of the future. The prevailing religion of America is not Christianity; it is Hypocrisy.
