The Importance of Being Johnny

As our telescopes improve, the universe gets bigger.

We are now at one million life supporting planets

in our galaxy, which is one of billions.

Kind of a long perspective contemplation has become.

In two-hundred years we went from being the

precious children of God to one of seventy-seven

gazillion raindrops that have fallen since the dawn

of whatever is the latest name for existence.

The hopeful sacred soul has evolved to

become an Intelligent Biological Entity.

We are now believed to come in many varieties,

something like the isle of cookies and crackers

or rows and skyscrapers of canned sodas.

In my own short lifetime I have evolved

from individual immortal soul to member

of a single universal lotus of consciousness.

I am not me but I am we.

We are a sound, a vibration, plasma,

magnetism, energy, two particles occupying

the same place, or one particle located in two places.

How do I evaluate my cosmic existence,

my alleged importance in a room with no walls?

Just within the boundaries of my neighborhood

we have reptiles, insects, and mushrooms with brains.

Each and all entitled to the love and protection

of the Great Spirit, the collective thing-a-ma-jig

that invents, controls, and ignores the universe.

We, me, everything is governed by the laws of Nature

backed by an infinite source of authority.

Be resourceful, creative, diligent.

Place your bet, trust in the ether,

stay in the game.

To endure is to win.

Take refuge in the positive side of science:

I can be measured, therefore I must exist.

Meaning is optional.
