Five Loaves, Two Fishes: Was Jesus a Freemason?

Copyright 2009, John Manimas Medeiros

Is there scientific information hidden in the story of the loaves and fishes? The loaves and fishes are a reminder of the story of Jesus and his disciples and the crowd of people in the desert. He was healing and teaching the people, who followed him to a place far from their homes. The disciples came to Jesus and said "The people are hungry. We had better let them go to get something to eat." Jesus said "Bring to me what food you can find among the people." They found five loaves and two fishes. Jesus then blessed the loaves and fishes and he multiplied the food and there was enough for 5,000 people with twelve baskets left over.

The five loaves and two fishes are symbolic of nurturing and stewardship, the stewardship of Jesus and the most direct form of stewardship in feeding the hungry. Also, the 5 loaves and 2 fishes are not accidental numbers. We construct the 5-sided pentagon by beginning with a right triangle that expresses the value of 2, because the height is 2 times the base. The hypotenuse is then the square root of 5. When we then construct the pentagon we get the value of Phi written as 1.618033988..., the Golden Mean, which is both symbolic of proportion and is proportion, the proportional number which when squared becomes itself plus 1, and all of the other realities about proportion, such as 0.618033988... plus (0.618033988... squared) = 1 and on and on. This is believed to be a geometric secret of the Masons and Rosicrucians. The 2 fishes and 5 loaves are symbolic not only of the miracles of Jesus but also the miracle of the self organization of matter and the evolutionary process whereby life begins very small -- like a mustard seed or the invisible yeast kneaded into bread dough -- but multiplies itself to become the abundance of life on Earth and in the Universe.
